#8 - Good Will Hunting

This is a phenomenal movie. Everything from the acting to the script were definitely Oscar worthy. Even though the character of Will Hunting was a tragic character, I still see this movie as a feel good movie. His life really knocked him down, but despite this and the fact that he was a genius, he was still able to overcome and succeed. It wasn't his brains that allowed him to succeed, it was his heart that won out in the end.

We have all encountered people like this. I have definitely seen this being a teacher and seeing the potential of students and not seeing them take advantage of their abilities. For most of these students, survival is the only success they may see. The abuse and crime they see as an escape or the only way to deal with their hardships, many times will win out. It is sad, but a reality. There is always that one student though that comes out on tip. They may take a while to get there, but they choose the path that is best for them and the ones they love. That is when you know they will be a success.

This is what Will Hunting, played marvelously by Matt Damon, had to overcome. His childhood was full of abuse and loneliness and his only outlet was to get into trouble. He had the brains and the ability to get out of it, but still this was the life he chose. It wasn't until he couldn't get out of trouble that he was able to overcome his problems, and truly find success in love.

The true scene stealer in this movie is Robin Williams. As the psychologist Sean Maquire, he helps Will overcome his issues is the role of a lifetime for Williams. With it he truly deserved the Oscar that he won. He plays this role with such heart and empathy that you can honestly see the love for Will and the desire to help him.

There is one scene in Good Will Hunting, that makes me break down and ball like a baby every time I see it. The scene where Sean tells Will that it was not his fault for the pain that he has suffered. When he repeats this over and over until Will finally breaks down and lets his emotions out is one the best scenes of any movie I have seen. It breaks my heart, but also gives me hope. Even though my tears are for the pain that Will is going through, they are also for the life that I know he is going to have, that we don't get to see when the credits finally role.

Again, I love this movie from start to finish. It may be a movie about pain and loneliness, but also about hope. I think it is a movie that everyone should watch at least once. I know they will enjoy it.

So I hope you liked them apples!

Take care and come back tomorrow for #7.
