The Departed

One hell of a movie. The Martin Scorcese directed The Departed definitely deserved an Oscar victory as this years Best Movie. From start to finish this movie kept me enthralled and entertained. Whether it was the actors, the characters, the violence, the bloodshed...I don't know. I just know that when I turned the DVD off, I was satisfied. Not after sex satisfied, but after a good workout satisfied.

The Departed, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon and Jack Nicholson, delved into the world of the Irish Mob and the police that are trying to bring them down. This movie, like The Prestige, was very much about deception and lying. Each faction had their own mole within the others minions. Each mole, DiCaprio and Damon, had to find a way to deceive so that they wouldn't get caught, thrown in jail or killed.

The relationships between these characters, especially DiCaprio and Nicholson was outstanding. The continual deceit, the lack of trust within in the others actions, was what drove the movie to its ultimate ending,

And what an ending. I was shocked but after I finished watching the movie, I actually wasn't surprised. I won't go in to details, the last 10 minutes of the movie had a bunch of Holy Fuck moments.

The DVD overall was pretty bland though. This was the rental version of it. No extras..at least the one I rented from the video store didn't have any. Nothing else but the movie, previews, setup and scene selection. Somewhat disappointing to be honest.
There is a 2 Disc DVD out there that has some very interesting stuff including deleted scenes, a documentary on the real life person whom Jack Nicholson's character was based on and another on Martin Scorcese and much more. Check this one out!!

Anyway...these are just a few comments. I could go on and on, but I wouldn't want to bore. Rent this movie if you haven't seen it yet. You won't regret it!!

Take care and enjoy the movies!!!

Didn't you find the ending a bit of a letdown? I just watched it, and I thought the filmmakers must have said something like, "Okay, now we've got all these characters figured out, how are we going to end it?" "I don't know... kill them all?" "Okay, why not?"

I thought the ending was alright. You could tell something was going to happen. After Leo had his brains blown out I thought that, after watching the movie, that it was fitting that they all died. No one was going to get away scot free, so it was most fitting to kill them all!!!
